Why this matters
When submitting course materials, accurately defining the access length and edition number ensures your students get the right materials for the correct duration, preventing access interruptions mid-term.
Determining the Access Length
The access length should match the duration of your course. While options may vary slightly by publisher, standard access lengths include:
- 180 Days: Standard for a single-semester course.
- 365 Days: Ideal for multi-term courses (e.g., Part 1 in the Fall, Part 2 in the Spring).
- Lifetime / Perpetual: For core reference materials students will need throughout their entire degree program.
Specifying the Edition Number
- Use Numerals Only: When entering the edition, use only numbers (e.g., enter "3" rather than "Third" or "3rd").
- Unknown Editions: If the edition is not specified or is a first edition, simply enter 1.
Publisher Updates & Edition Changes
Publishers typically provide the most current edition of a text. Because of this, the most recent edition will generally be selected regardless of your specific edition request.
However, if the publisher requires a change to a later edition than what you previously used, your Customer Operations Manager (COM) will reach out to you directly to confirm prior to making the change.
