Proprietary Content Guide (1/3)

This is the first of three articles that instructs institutions how to provide their own proprietary content or OER on the BibliU platform to their students.

It outlines the specifications that an institution’s proprietary content must meet to be hosted on BibliU’s platform.

Specifications

EPUB

An EPUB is an ebook file format that uses the .epub file extension. BibliU requires all EPUB files sent to meet its requirements. Please download the pictured ‘EPUB2 and EPUB3 Submission Requirements’ at the bottom of this article.

This guide includes criteria relating to reflowable & fixed EPUBs, file size and how to validate your EPUB is compliant with industry standards.

PDF

BibliU requires all PDF files sent to meet its requirements. Please download our pictured ‘PDF Submission Requirements’ at the bottom of this article.

This guide includes criteria relating to BibliU's compatibility with PDF versions 1.2 and Acrobat versions 3.0 and up, our image resolution specifications and our single page display settings.

📍Please note for the best student experience on the platform, BibliU strongly recommends all content should be sent as EPUB files, rather than PDF. BibliU's accessibility features are not guaranteed to work with proprietary PDFs.

JPEG

To provide a thumbnail image that will be displayed on the BibliU platform, please upload a JPEG file to the FTP folder. This JPEG will be shown to preview your piece of content in your student’s library.

Please ensure that it meets the below size specifications. Note that the lower third of the file will be obscured by the title of the book as shown in the graphic.

Metadata

An institution must send a CSV of metadata for the files to be uploaded to the BibliU system.

Metadata provides additional information about the file. Among other uses, it allows a student to find content through search. It links the file you send with the correct title, publisher and author.
