Proprietary Content Guide (2/3)
This is the second of three articles that instructs institutions how to provide their own proprietary content on the BibliU platform to their students.
It outlines the naming conventions that an institution’s proprietary content must meet to be hosted on BibliU’s platform.
- Read article 1 outlining BibliU’s specifications for the content that can be hosted on the BibliU platform here [LINK].
- Read article 3 outlining instructions for uploading files to the BibliU FTP server here [LINK].
How to name your files
Assigning a unique ID to a piece of custom content:
Each piece of proprietary content will be assigned a unique ID by BibliU’s content operations team. The IDs will be assigned to each book that the institution has requested to be hosted on the BibliU platform.
To receive unique IDs for your proprietary content:
- Send your customer success manager a .csv file containing the information for the book you want hosted in the metadata template (download this file below).
- The content operations team will then assign unique IDs to each title listed in the metadata sheet.
- Your customer success manager will send you back the metadata template with the assigned IDs. The IDs will look like this: 1000000000443.
After assigning an ISBN to a piece of custom content:
Now the unique IDs are assigned, you can proceed with uploading via the FTP.
At the point of upload, you should refer to the sheet of IDs assigned by BibliU’s content operations team. Use these IDs to label the book file, JPEG and Metadata that you upload to the FTP.
Please upload your files using the following naming convention:
- Book file (PDF or ePub)
- naming convention: uniqueID.epub
- e.g. 1000000000443.epub
- naming convention: uniqueID.epub
- Cover of the book (JPEG)
- naming convention: uniqueID.jpg
- e.g. 1000000000443.jpg
- naming convention: uniqueID.jpg
- The filled-in Metadata Template we sent you
- naming convention: universityName_date.xlsx
- e.g. universityPublishing_13012021.xlsx
- naming convention: universityName_date.xlsx
Why is the name of the file important?
BibliU’s system of assigning students the correct book relies on the correct name being assigned to a piece of content.
BibliU and the institution must be aligned on the metadata sheet that acts as a source of truth for the assigned ID.
